PokerStars Review

Launched in 2001 PokerStars is the world’s largest poker site with over 300,000 active players.  PokerStars runs the most active cash games, biggest tournaments and most WSOP satellites.  In fact, both the 2003 and 2004 WSOP winners qualified through PokerStars satellites.

Looking for the Best Poker HUD for PokerStars?  Read Best HUD for PokerStars.

The software at PokerStars is everyone’s favourite.  You cannot pick a flaw with it, the lobby navigation and filtering options are superb, the table graphics are exuberant and you have the choice of a 4 colour deck. The software is lightning fast and Mac/Winows downloads are available for different users. Multi-tabling allows you to play up to 24 games simultaneously – more than most sites and the independent software set the benchmark for online poker in 2010.

In terms of games and tournaments PokerStars is the best site in the world.  It runs more MTTs than any other site (as well as their own MTT leaderboards and SCOOP online championships) and holds the record for the biggest multi-table tournaments.  The most popular event is the Stars Million, a $1.5millon guaranteed prizepool tournament held every Sunday, usually with over 7,000 players.  Players can qualify for free to this event using FPP’s in satellites!  You can also play the $750,000 Gtd tournament as a warm-up.

PokerStars is also one of the best places to play Sngs.  They practically invented turbo sngs, and you can play hyper-turbo sngs, multi-table sngs and steps games too – all from just $1.  You can play regular 180 and 180 man turbo games as well.

PokerStars lets you play a full range of online games to choose from – Texas Holdem, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud, 5 Card Draw, Razz, Hose, Badugi and HORSE poker.  These range from $.01/$.02 up to blinds $100/$200.

The only downside to PokerStars that I can think of is the competitive level of players.  A lot of pro’s play are attracted to the software and tournaments, which makes games here a little harder to grind money in – especially at the higher levels.

Bonus

A bonus of $600 of given to all players who sign up!  This is released in $10 increments for every 170 VPP’s you earn.

When you earn FPP you can also trade them for items in the PokerStars store which includes branded clothing, caps, cards, chips and books – everything you need to become a real-life pro.
